In
more recent times Victoria has become Australia’s
entertainment and cultural centre. It’s capital city of Melbourne, with a
population of approximately 3.7 million, plays host to most of the nations top
sporting and entertainment events which include the Melbourne Cup (international
horse race), Formula One Grand Prix (international car race), Australian Open
(international tennis), Australian Football League Grand Final (football) and
most recently the 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also holds many of the premier
Broadway shows and famous for its streetside cafes and restaurants. Victoria has a regional
population of approximately 1.3 million which hosts farming and mining as its
major industries. This is a southern state which on average is the second
coolest state across the year and spends much of the year under cloud.
